How to protect your home while you are away on holiday
Essential steps before you leave, and what to do if a wildfire evacuation is ordered.
Summer and the holidays are here. Do you know how to protect your home if you leave it for a long time? The video covers the essential steps. And if a wildfire evacuation is ordered:
- Leave immediately. Do not wait to see the fire or delay for belongings. Follow official routes only.
- Basic kit. ID documents, phone and charger, medication, water, keys and essential health items.
- One car per family, to avoid traffic jams and keep the way clear for firefighters.
- Before leaving, if there is time: close doors and windows, turn off the gas, take down curtains and leave outside lights on.
- Pets: always take them with you, on a lead or in a carrier, with food and water.
- No hoaxes: use official channels only (112, Civil Protection) and do not overload 112 with general questions.
Speed and calm save lives. Prevention is our best tool.
